BOMBORA CUSTOM FURNITURE
Bombora Custom Furniture is a Torquay based family run business that specialises in designing and building refined recycled timber furniture.
Luke from Bombora Custom Funiture closely works with clients to design pieces of furniture that perfectly suits the style of their home as well as the function needed for the piece. This can mean a display cabinet with the dimensions just right for showing off beautiful treasures collected over the years, a dining table with dimensions perfect for the room or an entrance hall slim line sideboard with the width mirroring the art work above.
Clients have complete control over all aspects of the design such as the dimensions, timber type, thickness and finish. As all furniture is made to order, clients can have several pieces of furniture constructed from the same pack of timber resulting in a congruent look through their home.
With sustainability a focus, Bombora Custom Furniture prefers to use locally sourced reclaimed timber such as Messmate, Tasmanian oak and Victorian ash. Natural finishes of wax and oil are preferred due to being eco friendly as well as being hard-wearing and easy to care for.
All pieces are hand crafted with a single craftsman responsible for the piece rather than a production line which results in a better quality final product.
No house is complete without a piece of Luke's custom made furniture. Shipping is available Australia wide.
DESIGNED + MADE IN
Where do you get your inspiration?
"I would describe the Bombora aesthetic as being modern coastal with the inspiration for pieces coming from surf culture, the 70's silhouette and most importantly the timber itself. I design pieces to show off the natural beauty of the timber, highlighting interesting grain and sap-line patterns."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"This changes all the time! My current favorite piece is a 10 drawer buffet as the balance of the dimensions is just right and the timber that the client wanted has a beautiful tone and richness of character. Prior to that it was the bird rock round dining table."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Timber of course! My favorite is messmate, even though it can be a more challenging timber to work with. Due to its hardness, it produces striking grain patterns, sap lines and also a variance of tone that has become the signature feature of our furniture."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"We are currently working on indoor and outdoor timber couch frames with upholstered cushions. It has been something we have been wanting to do for ages as it will work is so well with our existing range of coffee tables, TV cabinets and buffets."
Describe your products in three words...
"Bespoke. Sustainable. Timber."
