FUSION BAU FURNITURE
Fusion Bau Furniture is what happened when someone had a good idea then met someone who could build it. Their signature pieces are handmade beds upcycled from old, unwanted wardrobes. Leticia designs the beds and Keith, who has over 30 years experience as an engineer ensures that each bed is structurally sound and exceptionally made.
The concept behind each bed is to take a beautiful old wardrobe that is no longer needed and retain all the classic features and design elements in a new piece of furniture that can be used and appreciated everyday.
Each bed is built upon a solid hardwood frame that is sturdy and incredibly strong then as much of the original wardrobe as possible is used to create the beautiful, one-off pieces. Some wardrobes have mirrors or drawers that are either incorporated into the bed design or sold with the bed such as a free-standing mirror or blanket box.
Each bed is a one-of-a-kind so prices vary depending on features and detail but generally fall within the $2000-$3000 range.
Fusion Bau Furniture also custom design and you can bring your own wardrobe to be remodeled as well.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"Wardrobes are beautiful classic pieces of furniture from good quality materials but are no longer as useful in modern homes. Often these pieces end up in landfill taking their beautiful features with them. I wanted to take them and give them a new life."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"The first bed we made was my favourite as it was the genesis of the idea. I needed a bed and when I saw the wardrobe online I knew exactly what I could do with it. Falling asleep every night in something that looks like my original drawing is wonderful."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"I love the hardwood timbers in the old wardrobes but I am loving working with the veneer panels from the old 60s wardrobes. The wood grain shine after they have been restored and the inner core of the panels make interesting features too."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"Each wardrobe has different features so I am inspired to use as much as I can. I am currently using some off cuts to make artworks and storage boxes but we would also like to make other furniture items with the wardrobes such as wine racks or dressers."
Describe your products in three words...
"Upcycled. One-of-a-kind. Beautiful."
