GailCC Ceramics are all designed and handmade by Gail Cockatoo-Collins in Brisbane. Each of Gail's pieces are made from different porcelains or stoneware clays, including the world renowned Australian porcelain, Southern Ice.
Gail mostly uses hand building techniques, including coil and slab work, to produce vases, plates, wall hangings, cheese platters and sculptural pieces. Slip casting is used to produce bowls, shot glasses and espresso cups. All functional pieces have food safe glazes.
Prices are affordable and each piece is designed to bring a smile to your face, and more often than not, include images of animals. Cats, dogs, horses and even wolves usually feature on Gail's work. Decorating is typically performed with underglazes and underglaze pencil.
Gail always aims for her pieces to be tactile, fun, original and unique.
Commissions are welcome.
DESIGNED + MADE IN
Where do you get your inspiration?
"My inspiration definitely comes from other ceramic artists’ works. Seeing the work produced from these artists really inspires and encourages me to create my pieces. I also find inspiration from ancient art works."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"Any piece that turns out after the firing! But in all seriousness, I did love a pair of cat vases I hand built from Southern Ice porcelain. I loved the simplicity of them and the feel of the unglazed finish."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Porcelains, especially Southern Ice. The properties of this clay are beautiful. I particular love the unglazed finishes."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"Teapots would be fun to make."
Describe your products in three words...
"Fun. Unique. Beautiful."
