JAN DICKERS OCEAN ART

Jan Dickers has resided on the Gold Coast for 23 years. During that time she has rekindled her love for the coastal environment. Through her frequent sailing trips around south east Queensland she gains much inspiration for her work. The textures from the driftwood she collects and the colours of the rocks that she observes feature in her work.
Her range includes watercolours, coloured pencil, mixed media, driftwood clocks, lamps and frames. There are also assemblages of handmade paper with organic materials that are found on her travels. ’
Jan’s love of the ocean extends to the birdlife which inhabits the shore, and the fishing boats that venture from our harbours. Her love of photography is a constant source of reference material for her original work. Many of her pieces come in driftwood frames, which show evidence of their time in the ocean.
The protection of the marine environment is something that Jan feels passionate about. She feels that there is always a concern of too much development in the south east Queensland region. In a small way people may be reminded of beauty of the coast by her works.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"I get my inspiration form the amazing textures of nature found on the Australian shoreline. From the beautiful trees that decay on the beach to the vast expanse of pristine waterways."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"It is hard for me to select a favourite piece. All my works have been inspired by memories evoked when they were being created."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"My favourite medium is watercolour because it is challenging. I love using tinted charcoal pencils and artist inks alongside."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
