Lauren is a Melbourne-based emerging artist; painting in every spare moment that she has. She has been studying painting and drawing after hours since 2012 and one day hopes to do what she loves fulltime.
She currently paints in her lounge room and aspires to have a beautifully chaotic Margaret Olley type studio-come-house. Lauren has had two successful solo art exhibitions in Melbourne and is commissioned regularly for private corporate collections.
She always paints from life and tries to convey the feeling, movement and beauty of the world that she sees within the borders of the canvas – not just simply creating a likeness. Many of her paintings have become talking points in people’s homes and she feels honoured to bring colour to their walls.
Her coloured abstract pieces are interactive; they hold viewers’ attention, inviting them to identify shapes within them. Her pet portraits are extremely popular as she captures the animal’s personality, as well as a likeness.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"I obtain my inspiration from life. I always draw and paint from life to convey my feelings of the surroundings. My abstracts come from being in a state of flow – I sit for hours and shapes appear and then my canvas is suddenly full of colour."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"The portrait of my dog - Milo. I can never sell this one. This was a breakthrough piece for me as I completely captured his personality on canvas, and this snowballed into regular pet portrait commissions."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"I prefer using acrylic paint for abstract pieces and pop art pet portraits, as the colours are bright and flat and they pop. I use a traditional oil painting technique (glazing) for more realistic pieces. I also love the freedom of sketching in charcoal."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"I would love to explore stained-glass window production. I think a lot of my coloured abstract designs would make beautiful windows and I receive a lot of comments that they do look like stained-glass. Hopefully one day I can design them for my own house!"
