Moerkey makes unique decorator pieces, such as balls, bowls and sculptural items from reclaimed and re-purposed materials. Moerkey creatively uses a variety of materials including keys, copper pipe, wire, timber and coins. Each piece is individually hand crafted in the Moerkey studio and hand polished and finished in a variety of ways to bring out the best of each piece. Inspiration is drawn from everyday objects reinterpreted in metal sculpture.
Michael from Moerkey specialises in custom pieces and enjoys the challenge and joy in creating that unique piece. They recently worked with a bride to create really unique pieces for her wedding. These custom pieces included custom hand made hanging tea light key balls in various sizes. This was teamed with circular potted plants. The end effect was simply amazing!
Products are suitable for any occasion, and have been used for trophies, gifts, practical home use, garden and decorator items.
Moerkey has sold items all around the world and has a successful etsy store that is well worth a visit for more inspiration.
DESIGNER + MADE IN
Where do you get your inspiration?
"Everyday practical items are an inspiration. I look at something then think what would that look like made from keys or coins. The creative juices flow and I just have to have a go at creating it."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"I love the simplicity of the extra-large key bowl. It’s a simple yet beautiful piece with a multitude of uses."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Commission pieces are also exciting and currently I'm in the design phase with clients for pieces using pennies, glass and lights and creating a bust for wall art."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"I really want to explore the interaction of light with keys as the shadows they create together are amazing. I am currently working on a series of light fixtures with some reclaimed timber stands."
Describe your products in three words...
"Unique. Original. Re-purposed."
