NOB CREEK POTTERY
Sue and Steve from Nob Creek Pottery produce fine reduction fired stoneware ceramics for your home.
Nob Creek Pottery specialise in functional cookware and tableware such as dinner sets, casseroles, and baking dishes. All work is strong and suitable for the oven, microwave and dishwasher. They also produce sculptural pieces, bathroom hand basins, tiles and accessories.
Most work is gas fired with reduction glazes but some is pit fired and wood fired. A range of approximately 12 glazes exist in the gas-fired work, allowing customers to buy complete dinner settings or bathroom hand basins and accessories.
Each piece of pit fired or wood fired pottery is totally unique as the colours and surface textures are produced through the firing process and are not totally controllable.
Steve produces wheel thrown work and has recently embarked on a new series of water carved work. This is proving to be extremely popular.
Sue produces work from slabs of clay and specialises in large platters and bowls. Steve and Sue collaborate on some pieces where Steve will throw the piece and Sue carves and decorates it. They have been in business for 34 years and are nationally and internationally acclaimed.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"Most inspiration comes from the environment or from travel experiences. We like the ocean and sailing and some themes relate to this. We also live in a beautiful rain forest setting with unique flora and fauna so these feature as motifs on many of our pieces."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"Favourite pieces come out of every firing and are sold to appreciative customers. I am always happy to see this happen. What makes a favorite piece is the combination of good form, texture and glaze, particularly when it all comes together to produce a beautiful piece."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Clay of course!"
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"Probably more into the sculptural side of my work and also ceramic jewellery, which I do now but have new ideas for."
Describe your products in three words...
"Unique. Practical. Beautiful."
