PETER WALKER FURNITURE
Peter is originally from North Yorkshire, England, where he completed a 5 year furniture making apprenticeship over 20 years ago. He was trained by an ‘old school’ furniture maker using traditional joinery techniques that have been tried and tested for thousands of years, and handed down through generations of master craftsmen. Peter is now honoured to be able to offer those skills as his standard practice here in Australia.
The furniture is handcrafted in his studio workshop in Perth, Western Australia, with meticulous attention to detail and the utmost of care. Although Peter has developed a passion for local timbers, he does not limit himself to these and works comfortably with a range of international hardwoods. With hardware sourced from around the world to complement his furniture, there is absolutely no compromise on quality.
Aesthetically pleasing and functional, Peter’s furniture is designed and built using traditional mortise and tenon, dovetail, and housing joints in all of the structural joints; thereby forming the integral strength and longevity of his furniture. As well as creating highly durable pieces, Peter is able to achieve looks that are not possible using machinery alone, such as intricate joint details and edges shaped with hand tools.
Peter offers a truly bespoke service to his clients.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"I draw inspiration from true master craftsmen of the past, including those who trained and mentored me, who have refused to compromise on quality and traditional methods. I love knowing that my pieces will be used for generations."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"Round glass coffee tables. The design is timeless and they are an ideal marriage of glass and timber in which the shaped timber and hand-cut joinery of the frame can be admired from any viewpoint."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Western Australian Sheoak. The grain patterns and colour are stunning and it lends itself beautifully to smaller pieces due to the size of the tree. It's a shame it's becoming such a rare timber."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"Bespoke dining chairs. I really enjoyed crafting chairs in the UK to complement the table, however in Australia the trend tends to be more towards chairs in alternative materials. As nice as this can look, there is nothing more comfortable than the perfectly made timber chair!"
Describe your products in three words...
"Bespoke. Handcrafted. Timeless."
