Adriana from Rustic Boutique has a love for all things vintage, rustic, French and shabby chic. This love led her to her new passion of up-cycling old furniture and antiques.
Old furniture is often discarded or dismissed as aged, ugly or out of date but these pieces of furniture are typically solidly made and beautifully crafted. They also tell a tale of the past and carry their own priceless history with them. Adriana never judges a book (or a cupboard) by its cover. If you can look past the external veneer or appearance of an item, then you have the potential to turn that item into a masterpiece and give it a whole new lease on life. With this new lease of life comes the knowledge that you have generated less waste and helped to minimise your impact on our precious environment.
In the up-cycling process a range of high quality paints and products are used to achieve the high quality and long lasting results. As you will see from their online store one man’s trash truly is another man’s treasure.
DESIGNED + MADE IN
Where do you get your inspiration?
"I get my inspiration from styles of the past, especially French with their huge varieties including opulent rococo and rustic farm house. Before mass manufacturing, pieces were hand crafted and had such character. I love the look of what I class as 'old-world' furniture; unique hand crafted and full of life."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"My bedside tables, as for me that is what started it all. They were my first vintage acquisition and I saw how beautifully crafted they were. Once I started working with them they took on a look of their own. I couldn't part with them."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Old wood, it's so unique to work with. When I come across wooden furniture that is time worn I have to have it! When the age of a piece is captured on its face, the wood tells a story of its own and has amazing charm and so much character."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"Cakes! Before I became addicted to upcycling furniture, I fancied myself a bit of a baker. I still have a cake making addiction so I would love to combine my love of furniture and sweets and one day have my furniture in a display shop combined with a small quirky cafe to sell cakes."
Describe your products in three words...
"Opulent. Rustic. Unique."
