SARAH SCHEMBRI CERAMICS
Sarah Schembri's Ceramics are individually created on the pottery wheel. Her main focus at present is creating beautiful, unique tableware consisting of bowls, beakers, plates and dishes.
Each piece is glazed and fired to 1280 degrees making them functional and food safe. Much of this work is inspired by Sarah's travels to places such as Cable Beach in Broome, WA and her interest in textures and colours.
Sarah has a love of food and cooking and the way food is presented; she is passionate about making pieces that are not only visually appealing, but are functional and tactile too. Sarah's work has a distinctively Japanese aesthetic.
An addition to her functional ware, she creates Nerikomi pieces - a traditional Japanese technique where the clay is coloured and combined together to create a unique pattern.
Prices vary depending on the range and clay used. Small dishes start at around $30. Commissions are welcomed.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"My work is inspired by the diversity and beauty of the Australian landscape - particularly rock formations with their contrasting textures and colours. Places I've traveled to such as Broome in WA where rock formations at Cable Beach are truly spectacular. These environments clear the mind and inspire the spirit."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"This is a difficult one! My last two firings have been magical, with such beautiful results. My most favourite piece would have to be a large shino footed bowl for an upcoming exhibition. The shino glaze worked perfectly."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"At present, buff stoneware clay. It's beautiful to throw with, functional and a good all-rounder."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"I'd like to create and explore more sculptural forms. I have a passion for mixing raw materials into different clay bodies. This is an area I would like to experiment and explore further when time permits."
Describe your products in three words...
"Unique. Special. Tactile."
