Shakiraaz is a boutique home wares brand, created by Melbourne based, Indian born, textile designer Shakira. Her love for all things bright and beautiful, handcrafted and handmade, drove her to start her business a few years ago by creating one-off hand painted artworks and cushions.
With a small print set-up in her alfresco, Shakira, uses hand cut stencils and hand carved wooden blocks to create textiles that are then made into products for the home as well as some personal accessories. Shakira also, creates artworks using Illustrator and Photoshop, which are then hand printed or hand woven into products.
Shakira's Indian heritage combined with her love for all things bright and beautiful, has resulted in Shakiraaz being a kaleidoscope of beautiful textiles and home wares from hand woven rugs and baskets, hand block and hand screen printed cushions, tea towels and much, much more.
With an aim to creating a sustainable brand, Shakiraaz, uses eco-friendly dyes, natural and raw fabrics and hand-spun traditional techniques, that leave a less harmful foot print on our precious environment.

Where do you get your inspiration?
"Being an earth zodiac sign, nature definitely has been my biggest inspiration. From flora to fauna, colours of the landscape at different times of the day and changing of the seasons to of course culturally my childhood in India, with its architecture, festivals and multitude of colours."
What has been your favourite piece and why?
"My hand painted Ivory Succulents cushion is definitely my favourite piece, as I've spent so many hours happily immersed in painting it, a labour of love for sure and inspired again by the many succulents I have in my garden."
What is your favourite material to work with?
"Screen or block printing with water based solvent free, eco-friendly dyes is what I love working with and printing onto rustic linens or cottons. I also use textile paints for creating my one-off cushions, which gives a more painterly look."
If you were to expand your product range to something entirely different, what would it be?
"I would love to delve into making and designing ceramics and lampshades. I'm also looking at extending my prints onto ottomans, so keep a look out!"
Describe your products in three words...
"Eclectic. Handcrafted. Colourful."
